UNIBEN Inducts Record 15,077 Students; Vice-Chancellor Unveils 20 New Academic Programmes
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has officially matriculated a record-breaking 15,077 students for the 2025/2026 academic session. The ceremony, held at the Ugbowo Campus, was particularly historic as it included the pioneer cohort for 20 newly introduced courses designed to meet modern industrial demands.
During his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, noted that the high enrollment reflects the institution's growing capacity and commitment to expanding access to quality higher education. The 20 new programmes span various specialized fields, reinforcing UNIBEN’s position as a leader in academic innovation.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that admission into the university was strictly merit-based and urged the new "Greatest ITES" to protect the institution's legacy. He issued a stern warning against social vices that could truncate their academic journeys, specifically highlighting:
Zero Tolerance for Cultism: Explicitly warning students against joining proscribed groups.
Anti-Drug Campaign: Reiterating the university’s stance against substance abuse.
Academic Integrity: Cautioning that examination malpractice remains a "capital offence" within the university’s regulations.
Professor Omoregie encouraged the students to remain disciplined and focused, noting that the university management has put measures in place to ensure a conducive learning environment. The University of Benin remains one of Nigeria's most sought-after institutions, and this record intake highlights the intense competition for spots in its prestigious faculties.
