UNIBEN Lecturers Refuse to Call Off Strike Over Half Salary Dispute

Lecturers at the University of Benin, UNIBEN, have resolved to continue their indefinite strike over the alleged incomplete payment of their August salaries.

The decision was taken after a meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, UNIBEN branch, where members expressed dissatisfaction with the payment of half salaries for the month of August.

Union leaders said the action would continue until the Federal Government addresses the shortfall and honours its agreement on full salary payment to university lecturers.

They noted that the incomplete payment has worsened the economic hardship being faced by academic staff and undermines efforts to maintain stability in the university system.

Management of the University has not yet issued an official statement on the development.
