UNICROSS VC Joins Governor Otu, Dignitaries at Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary Thanksgiving

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has joined the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, and other dignitaries in an interdenominational Christian thanksgiving service to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has joined the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, and other dignitaries in an interdenominational Christian thanksgiving service to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The thanksgiving, which held at the United Evangelical Church (Qua Iboe Church), Mary Slessor Avenue, Calabar, brought together prominent Nigerians, government officials, clergymen, and citizens to celebrate the milestone.

Governor Otu, represented by the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, spoke on the anniversary theme “All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation”. He called on Nigerians to uphold the values of peace, love, and unity despite challenges. The Speaker lauded the Governor as a God-fearing leader and credited the progress in the state to his vision and divine guidance.

The thanksgiving service was officiated by Rev. Dr. Akwu Peter Emmanuel, Superintendent of the United Evangelical Church, alongside other ministers.

The event was graced by the Chief Judge of Cross River State, Hon. Justice Akon Ikpeme, and her husband, Elder Bassey Ikpeme; the Secretary to the State Government and former UNICROSS Vice Chancellor, Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Ironbar; members of the State Executive Council, the Head of Service, Barr. Orok Okon, royal fathers, local government chairmen, political appointees, and citizens.

Prayers were offered for the peace, unity, and progress of Cross River State and Nigeria.
