UNIDEL Congregation Elects Idoye, Azani into Governing Council

The University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, recorded a significant development in its governance structure as the Congregation elected Mrs Blessing Idoye and Mr Nwabukwu Azani as representatives of the non-academic and academic staff respectively on the University’s Governing Council.

The election took place during a well-attended Congregation meeting at the University’s 1,000-capacity hall. It featured a contest for the academic staff position and an unopposed emergence for the non-academic staff slot. Idoye emerged unopposed to represent the non-academic staff, while Azani secured the academic staff position after defeating Dr Ferdinanald Iweriebor in a keenly contested election.

Azani polled 354 votes against Iweriebor’s 185 votes to emerge the choice of the academic staff.

Declaring the election open, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eric Eboh, who chaired the meeting, thanked staff members for their cooperation and support and assured members that the process would be conducted in a credible, transparent and orderly manner. He also pledged to work with whoever emerged, stressing the need for unity and collective responsibility in advancing the University’s development.

The Vice-Chancellor used the occasion to further highlight his Project RAISE UNIDEL Higher strategy, describing it as a development framework designed to accelerate the transformation and growth of the institution.

The massive turnout at the meeting reflected the significance attached to the election, which provides the academic and non-academic communities with direct representation in the institution’s highest governing organ.

The meeting was attended by members of the University Management, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patrick Ijeh; Registrar, Dr Esther Akpojuvie; Bursar, Dr Sunny Ikeogwu; and University Librarian, Dr Vera Okonoko.
