UNIDEL Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stella Chiemeke Honoured with Meritorious Icon Award
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delta, Agbor (UNIDEL), Prof. Stella Chiemeke, has received another major honour, further consolidating her growing profile in academic leadership.
The latest recognition came from National Trust Newspaper in partnership with Media Advocacy for Sustainable Development, which conferred on her the Meritorious Icon Award.
Presenting the award during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, the Editor of National Trust Newspaper, Mr. Chimezie Joseph Anigbogu, said the decision followed an independent assessment by the organisation’s research and feasibility team.
He said Prof. Chiemeke was nominated for her “human commitment to strengthening academic excellence at a young university,” citing what he described as UNIDEL’s visible progress under her leadership.
He also commended her track record of promoting professionalism and ethical standards, noting that her “farsighted leadership continues to inspire excellence and service to humanity.”
Responding, Prof. Chiemeke thanked the delegation for finding her worthy of the honour, describing the award as a meaningful validation of the collective efforts of the university community.
She dedicated the recognition to the management team, staff and students of UNIDEL, whom she described as the “pillars of the massive development achieved in five years.”
The ceremony climaxed with the formal presentation of the award, which recognised her “outstanding performance, visible progress recorded, and academic excellence at the young institution.”
Among those present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Patrick Ijeh, the University Librarian, Dr. Vera Okonoko, while the Bursar, Dr. Sunny Ikeogwu, was represented by Mr. Memeh Friday.
