UNIMAID, BIORTC Sign MoU for Postgraduate Programmes in Neurosciences
The University of Maiduguri has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BIORTC), Yobe State University, for the establishment of postgraduate programmes in Neurosciences (M.Sc. and Ph.D.).
The signing ceremony took place at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, University of Maiduguri, on Monday, 6 July 2026.
Speaking during the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, described the MoU as a translation of commitment into action, noting that it demonstrates the shared resolve of both institutions to strengthen academic and research collaboration.
He reaffirmed the University's readiness to partner with institutions that advance its core mandates of teaching, research, and community service, adding that the collaboration will contribute significantly to the development of specialised human capacity in neurosciences.

Earlier, the Director of BIORTC, Professor Mahmud Bukar, said the partnership would help actualise the visions of both institutions through the exchange of expertise, resources, and intellectual capacity to address the research needs of the North-East region and Nigeria at large.
The highlight of the event was the formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, and the Director of the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BIORTC), Yobe State University, Professor Mahmud Bukar, on behalf of their respective institutions.
