UNIMAID Hosts Inter-College/Faculty Sports Competition for Students

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has kicked off its 2024/2025 Inter-College/Faculty Sports Competition for students, with the aim of promoting meaningful interaction, unity, and friendship among students.

The competition features 12 NUGA events and is designed to identify student athletes with the potential to represent the university at external competitions.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, emphasized the university's commitment to providing modest sporting facilities for students, staff, and the host community. He acknowledged the pressing challenges the university faces, particularly the deficit in sports infrastructure, and assured that the university is determined to overcome these challenges.

The University's Director of Sports, Professor Zakariya Nayawo, stated that the competition is part of the university's efforts to initiate new ideas in line with the university's Golden Jubilee celebration. He appreciated the university management for their support to the sports unit and commended the Vice-Chancellor for his commitment to sports.

The competition is expected to provide a platform for students to showcase their talents, promote teamwork, and develop their sporting skills.
