UNIMAID Hosts NPMCN Accreditation Team, Highlights Family Medicine Integration
The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) hosted a team from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) on 3rd February 2026 as part of an accreditation exercise for its medical programmes.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, emphasized that the core purpose of education is to solve societal problems, highlighting the importance of primary healthcare and the need to tailor academic programmes to meet community needs. He urged the NPMCN to lead in developing clear policies on Family Medicine to enable nationwide implementation and government support.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Services), Professor Mohammed Ahmed Waziri, stressed the necessity of fully integrating Family Medicine into undergraduate medical training, citing its role in addressing community health challenges.
Dr. Fatai Olanyan, Team Lead and Chairman of NPMCN, noted that the visit aimed to assess UNIMAID’s medical programmes and facilities. He reinforced the importance of Family Medicine in delivering comprehensive patient care and building a resilient health system, while commending the university management for their cooperation and hospitality during the accreditation process.
