UNIMAID Lone First-Class Graduate In Sociology And Anthropology In 50 Years: Late Professor Abbagana Shettima

Late Professor Abbagana Shettima remains the only First-Class graduate produced by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, University of Maiduguri, since its establishment in 1975.

He achieved the remarkable feat in 1985. Five decades on, no other graduate from the Department has matched that distinction.

Although he was a proud son of Bama, Borno State, Professor Shettima had strong ties to Yobe State, having completed his secondary education in Nguru, where he graduated in 1981.

His academic journey was marked by exceptional brilliance. It took him to the highest levels of scholarship, culminating in his appointment as a Professor of Community Development. Throughout his career, he inspired countless students and scholars across Nigeria with his dedication to research, teaching, and service.

In over 50 years since the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Maiduguri was established in 1975, Professor Shettima stands alone as its sole First-Class graduate.
