UNIPORT Appoints Professor Princewill R. Chike as 10th Vice-Chancellor

The Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has approved the appointment of Professor Princewill R. Chike as the 10th Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

The appointment was ratified by the 17th Governing Council following the conclusion of a formal selection process conducted in line with the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act and the University of Port Harcourt Act.

According to the University, the exercise followed due process, including the constitution of a Search Team and a Joint Council–Senate Selection Board, which jointly oversaw the screening and evaluation of candidates in accordance with established statutory guidelines.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, congratulated Professor Chike on his appointment and expressed confidence in his capacity to provide effective and visionary leadership for the institution’s continued growth and development.

Professor Chike is scheduled to formally assume office on 13 July 2026 as the 10th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt.
