UniPort Vice-Chancellor Prof. Owunari Georgewill Issues Visionary New Year Message for 2026
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt (UniPort), Professor Owunari A. Georgewill, has ushered in the year 2026 with a call for renewed responsibility, academic distinction, and institutional growth.
In a formal New Year message released on January 1, 2026, Professor Georgewill expressed profound gratitude for the "sustaining grace" that brought the university community into the new year.
The Vice-Chancellor extended high-level felicitations to the University Visitor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, noting the President's commitment to strengthening tertiary education in Nigeria. He also commended the University’s Governing Council, Senate, and Management for their strategic oversight, which drove significant institutional impact throughout 2025.
Notably, Professor Georgewill referred to his Christmas 2025 message as the "last" of his five-year tenure as the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor, having assumed office in July 2021. This marks 2026 as a pivotal transition year for the University of Port Harcourt, as the administration prepares to build on a legacy of "integrity and distinction".
The Vice-Chancellor concluded his address with a message of optimism, urging all staff, students, and partners to work collaboratively. "We did it before, let’s do it again!" he declared, signaling a drive for deeper impact as the university moves into its next chapter.
