University of Abuja Community Rallies Behind New Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi

The University of Abuja has witnessed a historic show of solidarity as 17 deans of faculties, over 50 directors, and several heads of departments gathered to congratulate Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi on her appointment as the seventh substantive Vice-Chancellor.

 

Speaking on behalf of the deans, Professor Abdulfatai Jimoh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, expressed their unwavering support and confidence in the process that led to Professor Maikudi's emergence. He assured her of their 100% loyalty, emphasizing that the selection process was transparent, free from rancor, and in compliance with the university's governing laws.

Other dignitaries who spoke at the event included Professor Titus Ibekwe, Provost of the College of Health Sciences; Professor Abubakar Sadiq Abba, Director of the Centre for Distance Learning and Continuing Education; Professor Mohammed Gana Yisa, Head of the Department of Food and Agricultural Engineering; and Professor Sunday Dada Matthew, Director of the Centre for Community Development.

In her response, Professor Maikudi expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and reflected on her journey within the university. She acknowledged her role as a lecturer, director of the International Centre, and deputy vice-chancellor, academic, highlighting her collaborations with various stakeholders to promote academic excellence.

 

Professor Maikudi assured the university community that she would work tirelessly to ensure the institution reaches greater heights. Her appointment, which took effect on January 1, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the university's history, as she becomes the first female vice-chancellor of the University of Abuja.
