University of Maiduguri VC Congratulates Nigerian Economic Society on Borno State Chapter Inauguration

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Muhammed Laminu Mele, has congratulated the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) on the inauguration of its Borno State Chapter and the induction of new members. The ceremony took place on October 30, 2025, at the Borno State Internal Revenue Service (BO-IRS) Multipurpose Hall.

Professor Mele described the establishment of the NES Borno State Chapter as a milestone that reflects the commitment of economists in the state toward advancing sustainable economic development. He commended the people of Borno for their resilience and forward-looking vision, noting that the state is shifting from challenges to opportunities and sustainable growth.

The Vice Chancellor emphasized that the NES Borno Chapter will serve as a vital think tank, bringing together economic experts from academia, government, and the private sector to develop solutions to the state's unique socio-economic challenges. He charged the new executives and members to focus on practical strategies for economic diversification, youth empowerment, agricultural revitalization, and entrepreneurship in a post-conflict economy.
