UNIZIK: Rotary Club of Awka Honours AVC Prof. Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi with Distinguished Public Service Award

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, has been honoured with the Distinguished Public Service Award by the Rotary Club of Awka.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, has been honoured with the Distinguished Public Service Award by the Rotary Club of Awka.

The award was presented during a courtesy visit to her office on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

The delegation, led by the Club President, Rotarian Chijioke Ogugua, praised Prof. Arinze-Umobi for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and positive impact on staff and students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University. He highlighted her contributions to peace-building and development within the institution, noting that the recognition was a direct result of her consistent efforts to uplift the university community. “The Acting Vice-Chancellor has touched lives in the university community in many ways. This is our way of recognising and encouraging her efforts,” Rotarian Ogugua said.

Past Assistant Governor (PAG) Rtn. Emmanuel Ojukwu and Rtn. Adedeji Ann, President-Elect of the Rotary Club of Awka, also commended the AVC for her selfless service, describing her as a model of leadership and humanity.

In her remarks, Prof. Arinze-Umobi expressed deep appreciation for the honour and revealed her readiness to join Rotary. “I am humbled by this award, and I promise to join Rotary, not just for the name, but to be part of a mission that uplifts humanity. My table is for service and the world needs people who will build others, not tear them down, and I believe that is what Rotary stands for,” she said.

She further acknowledged Rotary’s global efforts in promoting peace and development, assuring the delegation that the award serves as a motivation to continue serving society diligently.

Other members of the Rotary Club of Awka delegation present at the event included Rotarian Chika Ekwueure, Past Assistant Governor; Rotarian Nzubechi Chinedum, Public Image; and Rotarian Nwobodo Christian.
