UNIZIK Senate Elects Representatives to Vice-Chancellor Search Team
The Senate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has elected two of its members as representatives on the Search Team for the selection of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.
The Senate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has elected two of its members as representatives on the Search Team for the selection of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.
The newly elected representatives are Professor Amaka Metu of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Professor Elizabeth O. Ezenweke of the Department of Religion, Faculty of Arts.
The election took place during the 239th Special Senate Meeting held on Tuesday, October 29, 2025, at the Zephaniah Mmadubuko Auditorium (New Faculty of Social Sciences Building). Five contestants participated in the keenly contested election, with the following results:
- Prof. Amaka Metu – 108 votes
- Prof. Elizabeth Ezenweke – 96 votes
- Prof. Nwachukwu Obiakor – 91 votes
- Prof. Abamara N. C. – 68 votes
- Prof. Ofomata Chijioke – 53 votes
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, declared Professors Metu and Ezenweke duly elected, congratulated them, and charged them to represent the Senate with integrity, diligence, and impartiality, upholding the best interests of the university.
The election was witnessed by the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. J. K. C. Emejulu, Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. E. C. O. Obidimma, and the University Librarian, Prof. Stella N. I. Anasi.
In a related development, the University Congregation also elected its representatives to the Search Team. Professor U. C. C. Nwogwugwu was elected unopposed, while Mr. Osundu Nnamdi emerged victorious with 95 votes, defeating Mr. Chike Nwogbu, who scored 35 votes.
