UNIZIK Strengthens Ties with Xiamen University as Acting Vice-Chancellor Hosts Chinese Delegation

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, has received the President of Xiamen University, China, Professor Zhang Zongyi, during a courtesy visit to the university.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, has received the President of Xiamen University, China, Professor Zhang Zongyi, during a courtesy visit to the university.

The visit, which took place on October 24, 2025, aimed to deepen academic collaboration between both institutions, particularly in the areas of student exchange, language training, and cultural partnership.

Professor Zhang, who led a high-level delegation to the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded his team by the university management. Discussions focused on enhancing opportunities for Nigerian students in Chinese language proficiency and cross-cultural studies.

Responding, Professor Arinze-Umobi described the visit as a milestone in UNIZIK’s international engagement efforts, assuring the delegation of the university’s continued commitment to mutual cooperation.

The meeting was followed by a guided tour of the Confucius Institute, where Professor Zhang commended the institute’s progress and reaffirmed Xiamen University’s support for its ongoing development. He emphasized the longstanding friendship between both universities and highlighted the institute’s importance in meeting the rising demand for Chinese language and cultural education in Nigeria.

Representing the Acting Vice-Chancellor during the institute’s session, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu reiterated UNIZIK’s pride in its partnership with Xiamen University and called for even stronger collaboration in the years ahead.

The delegation was treated to a vibrant cultural reception, featuring traditional Chinese performances such as Taichi Fan, Cross Talk, Rap Face, A Grateful Heart, and a Confucius Institute documentary video.

Members of the Xiamen University delegation included Prof. Chen Zhiwei, Director of the College of International Chinese Education/Overseas Education; Prof. Zhong Wei, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and College of Overseas Education Affairs; Prof. Deng Yanhua, Director of the College of Sociology and Humanities; Prof. Zheng Zhifeng, Acting Director of the College of Energy; and Mr. Zhang Yu, Manager at Yongxing Steel, Benin City.
