UNIZIK SUG, CSO Move to Deepen Campus Security Collaboration

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has taken steps to strengthen campus security following a strategic meeting between its executives and the University’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), Chief Ken Chukwurah.

The SUG President, Comrade Chukwusom Samuel, led members of the Executive Council on a courtesy visit to the CSO at his office, following an invitation extended by the security chief to foster closer collaboration on campus safety.

During the meeting, Chief Chukwurah underscored the need for increased student vigilance and called on the SUG leadership to work hand-in-hand with the University Safety Department to address rising concerns such as indecent dressing, criminal activities and potential security threats. He noted that the responsibilities of the SUG go beyond activism and advocacy, stressing that student leaders play a critical role in maintaining order and protecting student welfare.

The CSO also charged the SUG to intensify awareness campaigns among students on security-related issues, describing enlightenment as a key tool in curbing recurring threats. He further advised students to channel disputes and security concerns through the University’s internal security structures before involving external agencies.

In his response, Comrade Chukwusom Samuel reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to supporting the University’s security architecture. He assured the CSO that his administration would actively engage in initiatives aimed at promoting a safer, more secure and conducive learning environment for all students.
