UNN Honours Professor Ike Ernest Onyishi with Vice-Chancellor's Research Leadership Prize

Professor Ike Ernest Onyishi of the Department of Psychology has been awarded the prestigious Vice-Chancellor's Research Leadership Prize at the 55th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Nigeria (UNN).

Professor Ike Ernest Onyishi of the Department of Psychology has been awarded the prestigious Vice-Chancellor's Research Leadership Prize at the 55th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Nigeria (UNN).

The award recognises his exceptional contributions to research excellence, global scholarly impact, and his role in enhancing the University's reputation and international visibility.

Professor Onyishi emerged as the winner after what the University described as a rigorous and transparent selection process.

He joined the services of the University of Nigeria in 2002 and was promoted to Professor of Industrial and Organisational Psychology in 2015.

Over the years, he has established himself as one of Africa's leading scholars in industrial and organisational psychology, with more than 150 publications, research collaborations involving over 200 researchers across the world, and numerous articles published in internationally recognised journals.

Professor Onyishi is also a recipient of the prestigious Georg Forster Research Fellowship awarded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany.

He has held research appointments in Germany and South Africa and currently serves as a Senior Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg.

His academic mentorship has produced more than 20 PhD graduates and over 30 Master's degree holders.

According to the University, Professor Onyishi is currently the most-cited scholar in the Faculty of the Social Sciences at UNN and the most-cited psychology researcher in Nigeria.

The University congratulated Professor Onyishi on the recognition, describing the award as a testament to his outstanding academic achievements and expressing hope that his accomplishments would continue to inspire students and emerging scholars.
