49-Year-Old Football Legend Jerome Bettis Achieves Bachelor's Degree from University of Notre Dame

Jerome Bettis, the 49-year-old American Football icon and Pro Football Hall of Famer, has accomplished a significant milestone by earning his Bachelor's degree at the University of Notre Dame. This achievement comes after a remarkable 28 years since Bettis left his education to focus on his football career.

Returning to his alma mater, Bettis expressed the challenges of adapting to the changes in education and technology, feeling like a "dinosaur" in the world of modern schooling. While fellow students embraced iPads for note-taking, Bettis stuck to traditional methods, using a pad and pen.

In an interview with NBC, Bettis described the strangeness of being behind the times and struggling with technology. He highlighted the commitment he made to his mother to complete his degree, stating, "I promised my mother that I would get my degree. In my immediate family, I'll be the first person to graduate from college."

Bettis emphasized the significance of this accomplishment for his two children, stating, "For them to see dad finish a commitment that he set out some 27 years ago, for me to complete that, I think it says a lot to them."

Having retired from his football career, Bettis focused on his education and fulfilled the promise he made to his mother. He officially graduated in 2022, marking the end of a 28-year journey.

Celebrating the momentous occasion, Bettis took to Instagram, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to making his dream a reality. He wrote, "I have been waiting 28 years to celebrate this moment. I am so proud to be a graduate of the University of @notredame class of 2022!! I can't thank everyone who made this dream become a reality for me."
