42 Adekunle Ajasin University Students Achieve First Class Honors in 12th Convocation

In a notable academic achievement, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, is set to honor 42 outstanding students with first-class degrees during its 12th convocation ceremony. Out of the 5,249 students scheduled to receive their degrees, these 42 individuals distinguished themselves with top honors.

During a press conference, Professor Olugbenga Ige, the Vice-Chancellor of AAUA, commended the exceptional achievement of these graduates. He emphasized that the first-class graduates had earned the recognition and could hold their heads high anywhere in the world.

The breakdown of the graduating class reveals that 1,202 students are from the Faculty of Education, making it the largest group, followed by Science, Arts, Social Sciences, Administration and Management Sciences, Agriculture, Law, the Institute of Part-time, and the Institute of Education.

The Vice-Chancellor announced that the first-class graduates would receive automatic job offers within the institution after completing their mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. This move aims to encourage and reward academic excellence.

Despite economic challenges in the country, Professor Ige affirmed the university's commitment to maintaining high standards. He highlighted that over 10,000 students applied for various academic fields in the 2023/2024 academic year, but only 6,300 slots were available, according to the National Universities Commission.

The 12th convocation lecture, themed "Internationalisation of university education for global relevance: experiences, barriers, and prospects," will be delivered by Mr. Martins Oloja, the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Director of The Guardian Newspapers, Lagos.

In his address, Professor Ige outlined the university's efforts to enhance its online presence, academic standards, and research initiatives. AAUA has consistently been recognized as the Best State University in Nigeria over the past four years, according to the prestigious Webometrics Ranking.
