ABU partners Malaysian varsity on research, consultancy

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Malaysia, to jointly foster collaboration on consultancy and research in various interest to both parties. 

The MoU, which was sealed at a virtual ceremony held in the two institutions simultaneously on Monday, 11th September, 2023, also involves joint development of scientific and technical reports as well as publications arising from collaborative research activities. 

The agreement further seeks to identify other areas of possible mutual academic interest, including exchange of academic staff, and cross training of both staff and students. 

Equally, both parties are committed to identifying other potential research opportunities and initiatives, and joint development of research and grants proposals. 

Sharing of expertise and resources in the learning and development of human capital, as well as organisation of symposia, conferences, short courses and meetings on matters of interest to both parties form part of the agreement.

The two institutions also agree to exchange information pertaining to developments in teaching, student development, and research institutions. 

Furthermore, both parties accept to mutually promote their information and activities within the scope of the Memorandum of Understanding on their respective websites, as well as cooperate in any other areas from time to time. 

The MoU, which will last for an initial period of three years, emphasizes the importance of respecting each institution’s confidentiality and intellectual property rights. 

The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, signed the MoU on behalf of ABU, while Ag. Rector, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Associate Prof. Dr. Nazirah Binti Ramli, signed for the Malaysian institution. 

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim; the Registrar, Malam Rabiu Samaila; Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Mahmoud Mukhtar; Director, Directorate of University Advancement, Prof. Sani Abba Aliyu, mni; and Head, Department of Crop Protection, Prof. L.J. Bamaiyi, witnessed the brief ceremony.
