ABU Zaria Vice-Chancellor Commends Success of 45th Convocation Ceremony
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, successfully concluded its week-long 45th Convocation Ceremony and related events held from January 29th to 31st, 2026. In a special bulletin released today, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, expressed profound appreciation to all stakeholders for the successful execution of the high-profile activities.
The ceremony was marked by several notable events:
Public Lecture: Delivered by The Right Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby, retired Archbishop of Canterbury, on "Building Inter-Ethnic and Religious Harmony in Nigeria."
Pre-Convocation Lecture: Delivered by Her Excellency Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), focusing on "Challenges and Opportunities for Africa and Nigeria in the Present Global Geopolitical and Geostrategic Context."
Research Fair: Themed "Artificial Intelligence and Us (AI & Us)."
Convocation Ceremony: 27,370 graduands were awarded degrees, and an Honorary Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) was conferred upon Dr. Okonjo-Iweala.
Innovation Hub Groundbreaking: Dr. Okonjo-Iweala conducted the groundbreaking for a new Science and Technology Innovation Hub at the University.
Professor Ahmed noted that the success, achieved despite the scale and profile of the international personalities involved, reflects the University's shared commitment to excellence and teamwork. He extended sincere gratitude to the University Governing Council, Senate, staff, students, security agencies, community leaders, and all external contributors for their dedication.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the university community to sustain this approach in all future duties to elevate ABU to new heights.
