Achievers University Presents Seven Postgraduate Programmes for NUC Resource Verification

Achievers University has advanced its strategic expansion of postgraduate education following a resource verification exercise conducted by an 18-member team of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The two-day exercise, held from Thursday, August 27 to Friday, August 28, 2026, assessed the university’s readiness to offer additional postgraduate programmes as part of plans to strengthen its College of Postgraduate Studies and expand opportunities for advanced scholarship, multidisciplinary research, innovation and professional development.

The programmes presented for verification include LL.M., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Law; PGD, M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Geology, Microbiology and Public Health; as well as PGD, M.Eng., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Receiving the NUC resource persons during a courtesy visit to the university management, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Omolola O. Irinoye, commended the Commission for its role in safeguarding academic quality and maintaining minimum standards across the Nigerian university system.

Professor Irinoye described the NUC’s quality-assurance framework as essential to sustaining the credibility of Nigerian university education both nationally and internationally.

“On behalf of the Council and Management of Achievers University, we appreciate the National Universities Commission for its continued commitment to quality and standards in the Nigerian university system,” she said.

The Vice-Chancellor also thanked the resource persons for accepting the assignment and travelling from different parts of the country to participate in the exercise, describing their involvement as a demonstration of commitment to the future of higher education and national development.

She stated that the university had worked diligently within applicable NUC guidelines to provide the academic personnel, facilities, learning resources and institutional support required for the proposed programmes.

Professor Irinoye, however, emphasised that Achievers University viewed external quality-assurance exercises not only as regulatory requirements but also as opportunities for institutional learning and continuous improvement.

“For us, resource verification and accreditation exercises provide opportunities to improve the quality and standards of our programmes. External assessors often see beyond what those within the system may readily identify, and their objective observations help institutions become stronger,” she said.

The Vice-Chancellor assured the NUC team of the university’s openness to constructive recommendations and management’s readiness to address any identified areas for improvement.

She reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to its core values of Knowledge, Integrity and Leadership, noting that the proposed programmes were designed to advance knowledge production, ethical scholarship, innovative research and transformational leadership.

Speaking on behalf of the resource verification team, Prof. Binta Dalhat thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the university management for their cooperation towards the success of the exercise.

She explained that the exercise was designed to assess the university’s preparedness for the proposed postgraduate programmes against the NUC’s prescribed academic guidelines and standards.

Prof. Dalhat assured the university that the assessment would be conducted with fairness, transparency and objectivity, while seeking the cooperation of the management, academic departments and other relevant stakeholders.
