Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic Appoints Dr. Akanimo Jonah as Acting Rector

The Akwa Ibom State Government has approved the appointment of Dr. Akanimo Jonah as Acting Rector of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.

The announcement was made at a brief handover ceremony on Thursday, 27 November 2025, where the outgoing Rector, Dr. Moses Umobong — acting on the directive of the institution’s Visitor, Governor Umo Eno — formally transferred leadership to Dr. Jonah, who previously served as Deputy Rector.

Dr. Umobong praised Dr. Jonah’s seven‑year tenure marked by discipline, innovation and steady growth, noting that the polytechnic’s rise among Nigeria’s top institutions resulted from collective staff effort and gubernatorial support.

In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Jonah thanked God for the career milestone and pledged loyalty to Governor Eno, highlighting that the administration’s ARISE Agenda — focused on Agriculture, Rural Development, Infrastructure, Security and Education — is already reshaping the state’s education sector. He called on staff and students to back the governor’s reforms aimed at strengthening the polytechnic and expanding opportunities for youth.

Dr. Jonah outlined priorities including the improvement of learning facilities, reinforcement of discipline, expansion of practical student training and ensuring the institution remains competitive and responsive to state needs. He appealed for unity among academic and non‑academic staff during this transitional period.

A native of Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Dr. Jonah holds a Doctorate in Analytical Chemistry from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State.
