Akwa Ibom State University Announces Professorial and Associate Professorial Promotions

The Senate of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has approved the promotion of several academic staff to the ranks of Professor and Associate Professor following its 121st meeting held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the Senate Chambers, Main Campus, Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

The promotions cut across multiple faculties, reflecting the institution’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, research advancement and capacity development.

The following academic staff were promoted to the rank of Professor:

• Prof. Monday E. Dickson, Ag. Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Political Science
• Prof. Patrick J. Uko, Department of Science Education
• Prof. Enyenihi H. Johnson, Ag. Director, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering
• Prof. Joseph Emmah, Department of Physics
• Prof. Okon U. Jacob, Ag. Dean, Faculty of Arts, Department of Performing Arts
• Prof. Ikpe Udom, Department of Agricultural Engineering
• Prof. Rasheed Babalola, Ag. Director, Facility Engineering and Management, Department of Chemical and Petrochemical Engineering

The Senate also approved the promotion of the following staff to the rank of Associate Professor:

• Dr. Idongesit J. Udousung, Ag. Director, AKSU Commercial Farms, Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension
• Dr. Ekaette R. Udoh, Ag. Head, Department of Sociology and Anthropology
• Dr. Jacinta Akaenyi, Department of Performing Arts
• Dr. Lydia Udofia, Department of Zoology
• Dr. Imo Attah, Department of Civil Engineering
• Dr. Ubokudom E. Okon, Ag. Director, Institute of Agricultural Research, Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension
• Dr. Kingsley Uwa, Department of Business Administration
• Dr. Sunday E. Ibanga, Ag. Head, Department of Public Administration
• Dr. Ukponobong Ntia, Department of Microbiology

The university congratulated the newly promoted scholars, describing the development as a recognition of sustained academic output, leadership contribution and institutional service.

It further expressed confidence that the newly elevated professors and associate professors will continue to strengthen teaching, research and community impact within the university system.
