ASUU-KASU Elects New Executive Council, Pledges Inclusive and People-Centered Leadership

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University (KASU) Chapter, has successfully conducted its long-anticipated election to usher in a new set of executive leaders.
The election took place on Thursday, 10th July 2025, at the University’s Main Campus in Kaduna, following the expiration of the tenure of Dr. Peter Adamu, who currently serves as ASUU’s National Treasurer.
The electoral process commenced with the accreditation of voters at 9:00 am. Members from various KASU campuses turned out in large numbers to exercise their voting rights in a peaceful and transparent atmosphere. The process was observed and supervised by Professor Abdulkadir Danbazu, ASUU Zonal Coordinator for Kano.
Eight executive positions were up for grabs, with three Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Assistant Secretary contested, while five others were returned unopposed.
The newly elected ASUU KASU executive members are:
Chairman: Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi (popularly known as Skippo)
Vice Chairman: Adamu Mohammed Bashir
Assistant Secretary: Uwaisu Iliyasu
Unopposed positions include:
Financial Secretary: Sani Dari
Treasurer: Murtala Abdullahi
Welfare Secretary: Bala Reuben Gandu
Internal Auditor: Musa Umaru Gargati
Investment Secretary: Mary Goje
A bye-election is scheduled to be held in two weeks to fill the position of the Secretary.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Comrade Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi, expressed deep appreciation for the trust placed in him and pledged to lead with a focus on staff welfare, meaningful reforms, and policies centered on the needs of members.
He emphasized his commitment to inclusive governance and strengthening cooperation with the university management and relevant government agencies to improve the working conditions of academic staff.
The newly elected leadership is expected to build upon the foundation laid by the outgoing administration and steer the union toward greater achievements.
