Bells University Celebrates Professor Fayomi’s Appointment as Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Greenland University

The management of Bells University of Technology, Ota, has congratulated Professor Ojo Sunday Fayomi on his appointment as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Greenland University, Jalingo, Taraba State.

The Vice-Chancellor of Bells University, Professor Jeremiah Oludele Ojediran, conveyed the congratulatory message on behalf of the university’s Management Team, Senate, and Governing Council, describing Professor Fayomi’s appointment as a significant milestone and a source of pride to the institution.

Professor Fayomi’s appointment, which takes effect from August 1, 2026, was described as a reflection of his outstanding academic achievements, administrative competence, and contributions to higher education development.

The university noted that his emergence as the founding Vice-Chancellor of Greenland University highlights the quality and excellence associated with Bells University’s academic community.

Professor Ojo Sunday Fayomi, an alumnus of Bells University of Technology, has built an impressive academic and professional career marked by research excellence and institutional leadership.

He obtained a National Diploma with Distinction from The Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, a Higher National Diploma in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, and a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bells University of Technology. He later earned Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental and Natural Resource Management from Olabisi Onabanjo University.

Before his appointment as pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Greenland University, Professor Fayomi served Bells University in several strategic capacities, including Dean of the College of Engineering and Director of Academic Planning.

During his tenure in these roles, he contributed significantly to curriculum development, quality assurance, programme accreditation, institutional planning, research visibility, and global ranking initiatives. He also served as Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Unit and the Scopus Unit, where he supported efforts to strengthen the university’s international academic profile.

Beyond university administration, Professor Fayomi is recognised internationally for his research contributions. He has published over 500 peer-reviewed articles, authored six academic monographs, and holds two registered inventions. His research works have attracted more than 9,500 citations with an h-index of 47.

His achievements have earned him recognition among the World’s Top 2% Scientists, the NRF South Africa C2 Established Researcher classification, and a place among Africa’s Top 50 Researchers. He has also supervised 25 doctoral candidates and 42 postgraduate students to completion and holds academic affiliations with Tshwane University of Technology and the University of Johannesburg.
