BUK CDA Holds Media Briefing Ahead of 4th International Conference on Drylands, Food4 West Africa Conference

The Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA) has organized a media briefing ahead of its forthcoming 4th International Conference on Drylands and Food for West Africa Network (FOOD4WA) conference scheduled for Tomorrow, Tuesday 12th through Thursday 14th September, 2023.

The Media Parley which took place on Monday, 11th September, 2023 at the Conference Hall of the Centre, was well attended by different print, broadcast and online media outlets.

Addressing pressmen, the Director of the Centre, Professor Jibrin Muhammad Jibrin, said that the Centre is cohosting this year’s conference with the Food for West Africa Network (Food4WA).

He said the conferences were aimed at providing platforms for all the relevant stakeholders especially African Centres of Excellence (ACEs) to maximize their collective capabilities in order to address development challenges and enhance food security through research, training and community engagement.

Speaking on the 4th International Conference on Drylands themed: Ecosystem Restoration and Natural Resource Management: Exploring opportunities for Food Security in the Drylands, Professor Jibrin pointed out that it aimed to key in the UN International Decade for System Restoration Program and in the same vein, address food security challenges.

On the FOOD4WA Conference with the theme Improving Climate-resilient Agriculture in west Africa: Leveraging success of the reginal Africa Centre of Excellence, the Director CDA highlighted that the conference intended to address multitude of challenges confronting West Africa and central Africa relating to low agricultural productivity, climate change and high population pressure through knowledge sharing platforms.

He reiterated that the conferences bring all the relevant stakeholders together in order to contribute towards sustainable agriculture, food security, restoration and conservation of Africa’s fragile ecosystem.
