BUK Chancellor, Oba of Benin, Dr. Rijiyar Lemo, Dr. Bashir Umar Conferred with National Honours

The Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano,Oba N'Oba N'Edo Uku Okpolokpolo Ewuare II, N'Ogidigan, Oba of th Benin, was on Tuesday, 11 October, 2022 bestowed with a national honour award of the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) in recognition of his national service

Also, two other academic staff of the institution, Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar of the Department of Islamic Studies & Shari'ah and Dr. Umar Sani Rijiyar Lemo, Director Centre for Islamic Civilisation and Interfaith Dialogue (CICID), were decorated with the national honours of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

The letter of conferment reads thus: “I have the honour to formally inform you that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the conferement of the National Honours.”

The award was in recognition of their respective commitment to national building and growth and selfless service to humanity.

While congratulating the recipients, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, said he was not surprised at the recognition as it was well deserved honour.

“This award, no doubt, was not only recognition for you alone, but we see it as a special honour to Bayero University, Kano.
