COMEG Accreditation Team Visits BUK, Commends Geology Programme

A delegation from the Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscience (COMEG) visited Bayero University, Kano (BUK) on May 28, 2024, to assess the Geology Programme.

Led by former Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, the team met with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Sani Muhammad Gumel.

Prof. Garba explained that COMEG is a regulatory body overseeing the extraction of natural resources, including petroleum, mining, and water resources. He noted that the council accredits universities and polytechnics offering programmes related to these fields, including Geology, Engineering, and Water Resources.

Bello Adamu Takai, representing the Ministry of Water Resources, highlighted BUK's involvement in the Geological Association of Northern Nigeria and the hosting of conferences by the Nigerian Mining and Geoscientist Association and the Association of Hydro-geologists.
