COOU Students Accident, Emergency and Safety Unit Secures Partnership with Red Cross Society
The Students Accident, Emergency and Safety Unit of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam Campus, has secured a partnership with the Nigerian Red Cross Society aimed at strengthening emergency response and safety measures across the University community.

The Students Accident, Emergency and Safety Unit of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam Campus, has secured a partnership with the Nigerian Red Cross Society aimed at strengthening emergency response and safety measures across the University community.
The Head of the Unit, Dr Afamnede Godfrey Oguechuo, paid a visit to the Executive State Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Awka to establish a cordial partnership that would ensure timely and effective emergency response for members of the University community.
The State Secretary warmly received the Head of the Unit and expressed the Red Cross Society’s interest in partnering with the University.
He noted that the mandate of the Students Accident, Emergency and Safety Unit aligns with the selfless service of the Red Cross Society and assured the Unit of the Society’s full support.
The State Secretary expressed pleasant surprise upon learning that the Unit already has a Student Safety Marshal Corps.
He described the initiative as commendable, stating that it provides an effective channel for a robust partnership between the Red Cross Society and the University.
As part of the partnership, the Red Cross Society pledged the following to the Unit and the University:

Free safety training for Safety Marshals and interested staff. The training, which ordinarily costs ₦120,000 per person, will be provided free of charge.

Full partnership and access to ambulance services whenever the need arises.

Rapid emergency response teams for incidents on campus.

Full participation in the upcoming Luncheon with Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha in commemoration of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
Dr Afamnede described the visit as an answered prayer for the Unit and the entire University community.
He said it was fitting to describe the Red Cross Society as an organisation that embodies “Service Above Self.”
The Head of the Unit thanked the State Secretary for the gesture and pledged to report the Society’s act of kindness to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha.
He noted that the Vice-Chancellor’s vision of building a University with zero hazards and a conducive learning environment remains the guiding principle of the Students Accident, Emergency and Safety Unit.
