FUL VC Commends University of Bath, Adebiyi for Book Donation, Calls for Wider Partnerships

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, has commended the University of Bath, United Kingdom, and Engr. Busayo Adebiyi of the Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, for facilitating the donation of academic books to the University.

Professor Ibileye gave the commendation while receiving the books, which cover disciplines including Engineering, Humanities, Social Sciences and Management Sciences.

He described the initiative as a valuable example of how international partnerships and individual efforts could create wider opportunities for institutional development.

The Vice-Chancellor urged members of the University community to continue seeking and developing partnerships that could connect FUL to academic resources, research opportunities, equipment and international exposure.

“If somebody else can bring ten computers, another person can bring laboratory equipment, another person can bring a vehicle, while someone else can connect a student or a lecturer to an opportunity overseas, the university will become stronger for all these separate activities,” he said.

Speaking on the initiative, the facilitator, Engr. Busayo Adebiyi, said the donation emerged from a multidisciplinary research collaboration involving researchers and students connected with FUL and the University of Bath.

He explained that the research brought together students from different backgrounds, including students introduced through Dr Bumi Agbana, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, adding that the quality of the research impressed the collaborators.

According to Adebiyi, the successful research collaboration subsequently opened the way for the book donation and other forms of support.

"This is the beginning of the collaboration. There are other donations in the pipeline, including computers. They have sent the specifications, which I have inspected, and I confirmed that they will meet our demands," he said.

Adebiyi also explained that the University of Bath has an initiative through which academic books and other resources are made available to universities in different parts of the world.

He expressed confidence that the donation would strengthen access to academic resources at FUL, noting that government alone could not completely fund university development.
