COOU VC Omenugha Thanks Soludo, Says “I Wouldn’t Be Vice-Chancellor Without You”

The Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, FNIPR, has expressed appreciation to the Governor of Anambra State and Visitor to the University, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, for entrusting her with the responsibility of leading the institution as its fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor.

Prof. Omenugha made the remarks during a Thanksgiving Mass held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Nnobi, to celebrate her appointment as Vice-Chancellor and the 70th birthday anniversary of her husband, Noble Dr. Michael Cosmos Omenugha.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor reflected on her journey to the University’s highest office and acknowledged the role of Governor Soludo’s confidence in her abilities in making the appointment possible.

In an emotional tribute, she said, “I wouldn’t be the Vice-Chancellor if not for you,” while thanking the Governor for finding her worthy to serve and for prioritising merit, competence, and integrity in the selection process.

Prof. Omenugha described Governor Soludo’s commitment to excellence and meritocracy as a source of inspiration and confidence across public institutions in Anambra State.

She stated that her appointment represents both a privilege and a responsibility, assuring the Governor of her determination to justify the confidence placed in her through purposeful leadership, innovation, and the pursuit of academic excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the Governor for his continued support for education and for creating an environment that enables universities in the state to grow and thrive.

She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to repositioning COOU through transformative initiatives guided by her 3Vs leadership philosophy — Values, Viability, and Visibility — with the goal of building what she described as “the Now University and the University of the Future.”

Her remarks received applause from the congregation and dignitaries at the event, highlighting the shared vision between the University leadership and the Anambra State Government in advancing higher education.
