Delta State University Student Arrested for Alleged Self-Kidnapping Scheme

The Delta State Police Command disclosed the arrest of Nelson Eserada, a 400-level student of Delta State University (DELSU), along with his alleged accomplice Jerry Lawrence, for suspected involvement in a self-kidnapping incident. The arrests were made in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area.

According to SP Bright Edafe, the Police Command's spokesman, the arrests followed a report by Eserada's father to the Abraka Division. The father reported that his son had been kidnapped and the perpetrators were demanding a ransom of N50 million, to be paid in Bitcoin. Alongside the report, the police received a video showing Eserada bound and subjected to physical abuse.

Upon investigation led by SP Fabian Ayameh, DPO of Abraka Division, it was discovered that Lawrence, alleged to have conspired with Eserada, was involved in the crime. Edafe further revealed that Eserada's father had already paid N5.2 million ransom through a Bitcoin account linked to Lawrence.

Both suspects are currently in police custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.
