Dr. Alhaji Umar Bukar Assumes Office as Rector of Federal Polytechnic Monguno; Vows to Sustain Founding Legacy
A new era of leadership has commenced at the Federal Polytechnic Monguno as Dr. Alhaji Umar Bukar formally assumed office as the institution's second Rector. He succeeds the pioneer Rector, Engr. Prof. Garba Mohammed Ngala, following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The handover ceremony, held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, was attended by a cross-section of the academic community, government officials, and associates.
In his inaugural remarks, Dr. Bukar expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to lead the burgeoning institution. He also extended special gratitude to the Executive Governor of Borno State, Engr. Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, describing him as a "mentor and pillar of strength" whose contributions to the polytechnic’s establishment are immeasurable.
Paying tribute to his predecessor, Prof. Ngala, the new Rector commended the visionary leadership that placed the polytechnic on a competitive footing nationwide.
“Insha Allah, we will continue from where he stopped and take the Polytechnic to greater heights,” Dr. Bukar stated. He pledged a tenure defined by continuity, progress, and institutional excellence, urging staff members to maintain diligence and cooperation to ensure the institution ranks among the best in Nigeria.
In his farewell address, the outgoing Rector, Prof. Ngala, thanked the staff for their loyalty and urged them to extend even greater support to Dr. Bukar to sustain the school's upward trajectory.
The transition also extended to the institution's financial leadership, as the pioneer Bursar, Abadam Ali Mohammed, formally handed over to the newly appointed Bursar.
