Edo State University, Iyamho has formally admitted 1,152 new students into its academic community at its 11th Matriculation Ceremony, marking another milestone in the institution’s steady expansion since its establishment in 2016.
Edo State University, Iyamho has formally admitted 1,152 new students into its academic community at its 11th Matriculation Ceremony, marking another milestone in the institution’s steady expansion since its establishment in 2016.

The ceremony, held at the Aliko Dangote Auditorium, featured the administration of the matriculation oath and the signing of the matriculation register, officially conferring student status on the new entrants.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Victor O. Adetimirin, congratulated the matriculating students and thanked parents and guardians for their confidence in the University. He reflected on the institution’s growth trajectory over the past decade, citing the expansion of faculties and academic programmes, as well as increased research capacity.
Among the University’s notable achievements, he highlighted the development of the Edo State University Teaching Hospital in Auchi and the successful accreditation of its MBBS programme, describing them as indicators of the institution’s commitment to quality medical education and healthcare delivery.
Professor Adetimirin also acknowledged the support of the Edo State Government in advancing the University’s development agenda. He charged students to embrace discipline, integrity, and diligence as foundational principles for academic and personal success.
Goodwill messages were delivered by Emmanuel Usoh Esq., former Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Cooperative in Edo State, and Chief Isaac Odigie Ohonsi Esq. Both speakers urged the students to avoid drug abuse and other social vices, remain focused on their academic pursuits, and allow the institution to shape them not only intellectually but also in character.

The University reiterated its commitment to excellence, innovation, and global competitiveness as it continues to position itself within Nigeria’s evolving higher education landscape.
