EKSU Lecturer Arraigned for Alleged Impersonation, Cyberbullying
A Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti has arraigned Dr. Oyeyemi Agbeleoba, an EKSU lecturer and Managing Director of Our People's FM, on charges of impersonation and cyberbullying. Arrested by the DSS on February 11, 2025, his case has drawn public attention due to his familial connection to Mrs. Folasade Adebayo, who previously accused FUOYE’s vice chancellor of sexual harassment.

A Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti has arraigned Dr. Oyeyemi Agbeleoba, a lecturer at Ekiti State University (EKSU), over allegations of impersonation and cyberbullying. Agbeleoba, who also serves as the Managing Director of Our People's FM, was taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) on February 11, 2025.
The case has sparked public interest, particularly due to Agbeleoba's connection to Mrs. Folasade Adebayo, who had previously accused the vice chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Fasina, of sexual harassment. However, court documents confirm that the charges against Agbeleoba strictly pertain to alleged impersonation and cyberbullying, with no direct link to the sexual harassment accusations.
Thursday's arraignment marked Agbeleoba’s second court appearance, with the case adjourned until April 29, 2025, for further proceedings. Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned the arrest and demanded Agbeleoba’s immediate and unconditional release. The union alleges that Prof. Fasina influenced the lecturer’s detention, further fueling debates over the circumstances surrounding the case.
Authorities claim that Agbeleoba impersonated security officials and engaged in online harassment against FUOYE staff. If convicted, he could face a three-year prison sentence and a fine of up to N10 million. As legal proceedings continue, more details regarding the specifics of the allegations may emerge.
