Federal University Lokoja Moves to Launch New LMS as Ibileye Converts Harmonisation Committee to Implementation Team

The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) is set to commence the implementation of a new Learning Management System (LMS) following the conversion of the Committee on the Harmonisation of the University’s LMS into an implementation team by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye.

Professor Ibileye gave the directive while receiving the report of the committee, commending its members for producing what he described as a robust report containing practical strategies for implementing an efficient and sustainable LMS.

The committee, chaired by Professor Eric Sunday Adewumi, was inaugurated on July 15, 2026, to assess the University’s existing and proposed Learning Management System and recommend an appropriate framework for an efficient, user-friendly and sustainable platform. The committee held meetings on July 20 and July 27 before submitting its report.

Presenting the report, Professor Adewumi identified significant limitations with the existing LMS. These included reported technical glitches, the inability of ICT technical staff to access the system’s backup and difficulties experienced in accessing the platform.

Based on its assessment, the committee recommended the adoption of the new LMS and proposed a series of measures to facilitate its effective implementation.

Among the recommendations are the provision of a new cloud server and backup system, comprehensive training for ICT technical staff, the development of an operational manual and hands-on training videos, as well as physical training for Provosts, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments and Examination Officers.

The committee also recommended the migration of existing course contents in collaboration with the lecturers responsible for the courses.

It further recommended that all 100-level courses undergo plagiarism checks and be uploaded before the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic session.

To strengthen the production and recording of lecture videos, the committee proposed the establishment of at least five multimedia studios at designated locations across the University.

Responding to the report, Professor Ibileye expressed appreciation to the committee for its work, describing the report as robust and rich in practical implementation strategies.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the need to provide the necessary technical infrastructure, train ICT technical personnel and develop an operational manual and hands-on training videos to guide prospective users of the LMS.

He also stressed the importance of uploading quality course materials and ensuring originality, particularly in the case of 100-level courses.

While acknowledging the importance of the proposed multimedia studios, Professor Ibileye noted that establishing five studios would require creativity in sourcing the funds needed to execute the recommendation.

“We have converted the Harmonisation Committee now to Implementation Committee,” the Vice-Chancellor said, while commending Professor Adewumi for the mentorship he was providing and describing the committee as result-oriented.

Other members of the committee are Professor Afolayan A. Obiniyi, Professor Musa Adeku Ibrahim, Dr. Habeeb Ayoola Ayinla, Mr. Peter Akintokunbo, Mr. Fakiye John Bamidele, Mr. Danjuma Ibrahim, Mrs. Ruth Anjo, Mr. Godwin Sani and Mrs. Joy C. Afuribe Nwachukwu, who served as Secretary.

The move marks a significant step in Federal University Lokoja’s efforts to strengthen digital learning, improve access to academic resources and establish a more efficient technology-driven teaching and learning environment.
