FG Blasts ASUU Over Fresh Threats, Says Most Demands Already Met

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, and the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmed, have jointly reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to constructive engagement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) while warning against any action capable of disrupting the nation’s academic calendar.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, and the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmed, have jointly reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to constructive engagement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) while warning against any action capable of disrupting the nation’s academic calendar.

The Ministers emphasized that the Federal Government has shown sincerity, patience, and goodwill throughout its dialogue with the Union, stressing that virtually all of ASUU’s demands have been addressed.

According to the statement, the government has implemented a substantial increase in teaching allowances and made significant improvements in the welfare and conditions of service of academic staff.

They added that the few outstanding matters are strictly within the jurisdiction of the newly reconstituted governing councils of respective universities, urging ASUU to channel its concerns appropriately instead of resorting to threats of industrial action.
