Four Corps Members Among Six Killed in Horrific Adamawa Road Accident

Six people, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), have died in a fatal road accident in the Narehi area of Girei-Song Local Government Area, Adamawa State. The crash occurred on Wednesday when a military gun truck travelling from Gombi to Yola collided head-on with a commercial Hummer bus heading to Mubi.

Four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and two other persons lost their lives after a fatal road accident that occurred on Wednesday in the Narehi area of Girei-Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The victims were reportedly burnt to death when the crash occurred along the road, with police confirming that six people died in the incident.

According to preliminary findings, four of the deceased were serving NYSC members posted to Adamawa State.

The police identified two of the corps members as Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while the identities of the remaining victims are yet to be confirmed.

According to a statement by the spokesman of the Adamawa Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, “The unfortunate incident involved a military Gun truck travelling from Gombi towards Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying five (5) passengers from Yola to Mubi”.

“Preliminary findings reveal that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, resulting in the commercial bus flipping over and bursting into flames,” Nguroje said.

“Tragically, all five passengers aboard the Hummer bus were burnt to death after the vehicle caught fire following the collision,” the statement read in part.

Police authorities also disclosed that a military personnel attached to one of the vehicles involved in the accident was among those who lost their lives.

“The corpses have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital, Yola, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining bodies and locate their families,” the police said.

Nguroje said the Commissioner of Police in the state extended condolences to the families of the deceased, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the NYSC and others affected by the tragedy.
