The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, along with his management team, received the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Entrepreneurship Development in Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, who was on a working visit and tour of ICT facilities and innovation hubs across higher institutions in Nigeria.

During the courtesy visit on Friday, the SSA engaged the University Management in deep discussions on how to entrench entrepreneurial spirit and innovativeness among students, identifying a strategic location within the University to deploy a modular ICT/TECH hub, to foster digital literacy and upskilling the teeming youths as well as providing them with access to digital resources.

She disclosed to FUL Management that her office was driving a new wave of advocacy and strategic partnerships for implementing projects that would upskill the youths and young digital natives in preparation for the evolving digital opportunities, which she said was in line with the ambitious vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR to ensure that 3 million self-sustaining tech entrepreneurs emerged by the year 2030.

Engr. Adighije, who argued that the major stakeholders in the nation's digital economy were the young adults who are still schooling, noted that the President was interested in supporting the youths to develop their skills and provide an enabling environment for them to nurture their skills to the next level.

She maintained that considering the present economic reality, it was obvious that the government could not continue to sustain the economy with oil, hence the President's determination to diversify and develop the digital economy, pointing out that the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy was saddle with the responsibility of driving this laudable initiative.

Thereafter, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi led the SSA on a tour around some facilities at the main campus, including the Directorates of ICT, Entrepreneurship Studies and Skills Acquisition, Distance and E-learning, and identified a spot for the deployment of modular ICT hub within the University. See more pictures here
