FUL Vice Chancellor Urges Mass Communication Students to Pursue Professionalism and Excellence

The Federal University Lokoja (FUL), has urged Mass Communication students to embrace professionalism competence and ethical conduct as they prepare for careers in the media industry.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye gave the charge during the opening ceremony of a three day workshop organized by the Mass Communication Students Association MACOSA of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.

The workshop titled Media Craft and Oratory Masterclass was held at the university's Multipurpose Hall on the Felele campus.

Represented by the Director of Strategic Communications and Corporate Documentation Dr. Tosin Olagunju the Vice Chancellor encouraged students to develop intellectual curiosity critical thinking discipline ethical values and a commitment to continuous learning in order to become outstanding media professionals.

Professor Ibileye commended the leadership of MACOSA for organizing the programme describing it as an initiative that would equip students with practical skills needed for professional success.

He emphasized the vital role of the media in society noting that its effectiveness depends largely on the competence integrity and creativity of media practitioners.

The Vice Chancellor also encouraged participants to take full advantage of the workshop by engaging actively with resource persons asking thoughtful questions and accepting constructive criticism that would strengthen their professional growth and reputation.

Delivering the keynote address Dr. Tosin Olagunju described media professionals as interpreters of reality and custodians of public trust.

He advised students to always verify information before publishing listen before speaking and investigate thoroughly before reaching conclusions stressing that journalists and communicators have the power to shape public opinion influence policy preserve history and define institutions.

Dr. Olagunju also shared key principles that have guided his professional career including protecting personal integrity embracing lifelong learning mastering the art of writing developing emotional intelligence and remaining committed to serving humanity.
