FULAFIA Pledges Support for NUPEMCO Recapitalisation During ASUU Delegation Visit

The Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) has expressed readiness to support the recapitalisation of the Nigerian University Pension Management Company (NUPEMCO), following a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) has expressed readiness to support the recapitalisation of the Nigerian University Pension Management Company (NUPEMCO), following a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The delegation, led by former ASUU President and former Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University, Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, visited the Vice-Chancellor of FULAFIA, Professor Mohammed Isa Kida, to seek institutional backing for the proposed recapitalisation of NUPEMCO.

Other members of the delegation included the ASUU North-Central Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Al-Amin A. Abdullahi; former Kano Zone Coordinator, Comrade Mahmud Lawan; and NUPEMCO Manager for Risk and Internal Control, Mrs. Cynthia Gayya.

The team was formally presented to the Vice-Chancellor by the Chairman of the ASUU-FULAFIA Branch, Comrade Sunday Orinya.

Speaking during the visit, Professor Awuzie appealed for the university’s support, describing NUPEMCO as a critical institution established to safeguard the retirement benefits of workers in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.

He emphasized that strengthening the pension management company is essential to ensuring long-term financial security for academic and non-academic staff across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

In his response, Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammed Isa Kida appreciated the delegation for the engagement and assured them of the university’s willingness to support the recapitalisation initiative.

NUPEMCO is a pension fund management company licensed to exclusively manage the pensions of employees in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, including public and private universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
