The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has officially inaugurated its new Governing Council with His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun IV, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land, assuming the role of Pro-Chancellor and Chairman. The inaugural meeting took place on July 4, 2024, in Abuja, where Oba Olabomi emphasized the council's role in fostering national service and advancing practical policies for the university's growth and community impact.

During the meeting, Pro-Chancellor Oba Olabomi stressed the importance of attitudinal change and cooperative efforts among council members to enhance FUNAAB's global standing. He called for unity to address pressing university matters effectively.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde introduced internal council members and expressed anticipation for their collaboration in addressing critical university issues. Notable attendees included Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kola Adebayo, Ag. Registrar Mrs. Oluwatoyin Dawodu, and other key university officials.

In response to recent media reports, FUNAAB clarified that 18 academics were promoted to Professor in 2022, rebutting claims of a lack of promotions. The university affirmed ongoing efforts for the 2024 promotion exercise following the council's inauguration.

The inauguration coincided with the broader appointment of chairpersons and members across federal tertiary institutions by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman. He urged appointees to focus on enhancing internal revenue generation and ensuring transparent financial management to meet national educational objectives.

Honourable Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tanko Sununu, underscored the importance of upholding legal frameworks to preserve institutional integrity and accountability in tertiary education. Dr. Chris Maiyaki, Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), pledged support for the new council members to improve Nigeria's university system.
