FUTH Lafia IPC Unit Trains Surgical Ward Attendants on Infection Prevention and Control

The Infection Prevention and Control, IPC, Unit of the Federal University Teaching Hospital, FUTH, Lafia, has trained attendants in the Surgical Ward on essential practices to prevent healthcare-associated infections.

The training focused on hand hygiene, proper use of Personal Protective Equipment, PPE, environmental cleaning, and other critical infection prevention measures aimed at strengthening patient safety across the facility.

Speaking during the session, facilitators from the IPC Unit emphasized that strict adherence to infection prevention protocols is key to "breaking the chain of infection" within hospital wards. They noted that attendants play a vital role in maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Participants were taken through practical demonstrations on correct handwashing techniques, appropriate donning and doffing of gloves, gowns and masks, as well as standardized procedures for cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and equipment.

The IPC Unit reaffirmed FUTH Lafia’s commitment to continuous capacity building for all cadres of staff, in line with national guidelines on infection prevention and control.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the hospital to reduce the risk of infections and promote a culture of safety and quality care delivery.
