FUTH Lafia Social Welfare Unit Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting Vulnerable Patients
The Social Welfare Department of the Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH), Lafia, has reaffirmed its commitment to providing support services to vulnerable patients by highlighting its key roles in patient care and welfare.
Speaking during an interview with Mr. Yahaya Yakubu a Chief Admin. Officer at the Unit, he explained that the Unit was established primarily to assist vulnerable and indigent patients who are unable to afford the cost of medical treatment and other related expenses.

Yahaya further said that one of the Unit's major responsibilities is repatriation, which involves providing transportation assistance to discharged patients who lack the financial means to return to their homes, noting that the intervention ensures that such patients safely reach their destinations.
Mr. Yakubu further stated that the department offers counselling services to patients and their relatives, helping them cope with the emotional, social, and financial challenges associated with illness and hospitalization and
also conducts follow-up visits and monitoring to ensure that patients adhere to prescribed medications and medical advice after receiving treatment.
He said while the Unit remains committed to promoting patient well-being by providing essential support services, well spirited individuals and philanthropist should endeavor to make donations to the Unit in cash and kind to compliment FUTH Lafia efforts to ease patients burdens.
