FUTIA VC Commends TETFund for Intervention Projects at South-South Town-Hall Meeting

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi, FUTIA, Akwa Ibom State, Professor Leo Daniel, has commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, for its various intervention projects in the institution.

Prof. Daniel made the commendation during his remarks at the 2026 TETFund Board of Trustees Town-Hall Meeting for the South-South Region held on Wednesday, 9th September, 2026, at Rhocharls Hotels & Suite, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

He specifically appreciated the Federal Government, the TETFund Board of Trustees led by His Excellency Aminu Masari, the South-South Board Member, Hon. Aboh Uduyok, and the Management of the Fund led by the Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, and his team for the strategic management of the Fund and its outstanding contributions to tertiary education development in Nigeria, particularly in beneficiary institutions.

The Town-Hall Meeting provided a platform for heads of beneficiary institutions, labour unions and affiliated groups in the education sector, and other critical stakeholders to appreciate, appraise, and review the implementation of TETFund interventions and initiatives across institutions in the region.

In his welcome address, the TETFund Board Member representing the South-South, Hon. Sir Aboh Uduyok, described the gathering as a strategic platform for open dialogue, reflection, and collective action. He noted that it was designed to foster meaningful engagement between the Fund, beneficiary institutions, and other relevant stakeholders in the South-South.

Delivering the keynote address titled “Renewing Hope, Transforming Tertiary Education: The Federal Government’s Vision and the Road Ahead,” the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh, outlined the Federal Government’s direction for the sector.

Other paper presentations included “From Funding to Impact: Research, Innovation, Digital Transformation and Human Capital Development” by the Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi; and “University/Industry Collaboration as a Catalyst for National Development” by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, Prof. Tonbarapagha Kingdom.

The event also featured goodwill messages, highlights of major TETFund achievements, new resolutions, an interactive session, questions and answers, and the delivery of a communique.

In attendance were Vice Chancellors, Provosts, Rectors, TETFund Desk Officers, and Academic Staff Union Chairpersons of beneficiary institutions, as well as other stakeholders.

Members of the FUTIA delegation to the Town-Hall Meeting included the TETFund Desk Officer, Dr. Jeremiah Edet, and an Information and Public Relations Officer of the University, Peter Saturday.
