The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, has been honoured with the Global Excellence Leadership Award at the 22nd edition of the Global Excellence Recognition Awards 2026.

The ceremony, organised by Global Excellence Magazine, took place on Sunday, May 24, 2026, in Ikeja, Lagos, and brought together prominent figures from across different sectors of the country in a celebration of leadership, service, and professional excellence.

The award was presented in recognition of Prof. Olatunji-Bello’s transformational leadership at LASU, particularly her role in repositioning the university into one of the most competitive and sought-after institutions in Nigeria. It also acknowledged her broader contributions to the development of education in Lagos State.

Speaking at the event, the Publisher of Global Excellence Magazine, Mr. Mayowa Abiodun Akinpelu, popularly known as Mayor Akinpelu, said the Vice-Chancellor’s administration has continued to drive institutional growth through innovation, stability, infrastructural development, academic excellence, and strategic leadership.

He noted that under her leadership, LASU has strengthened its reputation and visibility in the Nigerian higher education space through consistent reforms and performance-driven management.

In her response, Prof. Olatunji-Bello expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition and dedicated the award to members of staff and students of Lagos State University, describing them as the core drivers of the institution’s achievements.

She reaffirmed her commitment to sustaining a culture of excellence, innovation, and service that continues to define the university’s progress and institutional identity.

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied to the event by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Oseni Taiwo Afisi; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin; the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel A. Fanu; and other senior officials of the university.

The event featured the recognition of distinguished personalities and stakeholders from various sectors, reinforcing its status as a platform for honouring impactful leadership and societal contribution.
