Governor Alia Approves N7 Billion to Revamp Benue State University Teaching Hospital

Governor Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has approved approximately N7 billion for the renovation and modernization of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH). This announcement was made by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of BSUTH, Dr. Stephen Hwande, during a press briefing in Makurdi.
Dr. Hwande highlighted this development while discussing preparations for the upcoming Benue International Investment Summit, which BSUTH is set to host. Scheduled for Thursday and Friday, the summit will also mark BSUTH's inaugural scientific medical exhibition.
A key focus of the summit will be the launch of a N5 billion Endowment Fund aimed at establishing a state-of-the-art cancer unit within BSUTH. Dr. Hwande emphasized the importance of early cancer detection and management, stating, "We want to begin the process of changing the narrative in cancer management in Benue and North Central Nigeria."

The event will also include the honoring of hospital ambassadors, recognizing their contributions to BSUTH's growth and development. Among those to be honored is former Benue State Governor Senator Gabriel Suswam, who commissioned the hospital in 2012.
