Governor Otu Meets UNICROSS Management, ASUU Leadership Over Ongoing Industrial Dispute

Cross River State Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has continued efforts towards resolving the ongoing industrial dispute at the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) following a meeting with the university management and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNICROSS branch.

The closed-door meeting was held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the Governor’s Office in Calabar as part of the state government’s ongoing engagement with stakeholders to address issues affecting academic activities at the institution.

The UNICROSS delegation was led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Bassey, and included members of the university management, ASUU Calabar Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Ikechukwu Igwenyi; ASUU UNICROSS Branch Chairperson, Dr. Patrick Ushie; and other union officials.

The engagement was aimed at addressing concerns raised by the academic union and finding a pathway towards restoring normal academic activities at the university.

The meeting followed another engagement held a day earlier between Governor Otu, student leaders, and the management of UNICROSS, reflecting the administration’s commitment to dialogue and broad-based consultation in resolving the dispute.

While details of the closed-door discussions were not immediately disclosed, the meeting forms part of continued efforts by the state government and university stakeholders to achieve a lasting resolution to the issues surrounding the strike.
